From the Executive Director of Adefua Cultural Education Workshop

This year of 2020 has been a year to remember. Adefua has been able to unpack and reflect in real time that our ability to accomplish success is compromised by a lack of resources and a lack of social interventions. Even as we struggle for survival, well organized and well-resourced arts groups are receiving a disproportionate amount of funding and community resources for arts and cultural programing. Adefua is in need for expansion to effectively serve our Southeast Seattle communities. Adefua is moving forward to assist with offering creative outlets as we continue to create a forum for working together. I ask that you and yours decide to tune into our work and be a part of our growth. For over the past 35 years, Adefua has continued to support arts and culture programming with limited and at times, no supports. In moving forward, We’ve restructured our organization and currently seeking community visionaries to come in and join our endeavors. I encourage you to be intentional with placing yourself to be a part of our movement. We’re family friendly and offer creative initiatives that can be intergeneration-ally celebrated.

UJIMAA is the name of the Volunteer Committee. UJIMAA is a Kiswahili word, which means; Collective Work and Responsibility. In looking at a communal economy, we honestly need a village of volunteers in order to move smoothly through all of the support that is needed on behalf of Adefua. We facilitate a connectedness that enhances academics and family involvement. Every volunteer will learn and enjoy the works of village life as we engage community together. We need people who are happy to do the work! Come be a part of Adefua’s growing Team!We have openings for: Event Support, Outreach, Marketing, Communications, Community Liaison, Board of Directors and Specialized Skills.
